Netflix Gives Us Our First Look at Mike Flanagan’s ‘The Midnight Club’

The Midnight Club by Flanagan

By now, we know that Netflix is pretty big on the horror series/movie scene, with hits like The Haunting Of Hill House and the upcoming Cabinet of Curiosities, and they’ve given us our first look into their upcoming horror-anthology, The Midnight Club, which is created by Mike Flanagan and Trevor Macy.

Within the teaser, which is an ample 1:13 long, we’re given an insight into the setting of the show, Rotterdam House, which serves a hospice for terminally-ill children. There does seem to be a catch, however, and the house is ran by an eccentric and mysterious doctor. We see eight children of different ages and gender who form a friendship group/club in which they all tell horror stories — the Midnight Club, we’re guessing.

After showing the children, the teaser goes on to introduce the main cast of the series, which includes: Igby Rigney, Ruth Codd, Annarah Cymone, Aya Furukawa, Chris Sumpter, Iman Benson, Adia, and Sauriyan Sapkota. It’s a solid cast and therefore the series should be somewhat respectable — after all, Flanagan has previously worked on smash-hits such as the aforementioned Haunting of Hill House and its successor, The Haunting of Bly Manor.

As the teaser continues, each member of the Midnight Club recites one verse of a Macabre poem, and when put together, the poem is eery and sets the stage for what we assume the entire series will be — it’s got us excited! Looking deeper, the poem relates to the plot of the series, which follows the pact they create in which one of them must die and return to life to tell the others what it is like beyond the grave.

To those before. To those after. To those near. And to those beyond. Seen or unseen. Here but not here.

The Midnight Club Pact

The Midnight Club is just the beginning for Flanagan and, after adding it to his long list of successes, he and Macy will work on adapting The Fall of the House by Edgar Allan Poe into a Netflix hit. This is expected to hit Netflix sometime next year.

For now, however, The Midnight Club comes to Netflix October 7, 2022. Check out the trailer below and let us know what you think!
